      Ft Belvoir, VA is a U.S. Army installation located in Fairfax County, Virginia. The census-designated place, once home to the Belvoir Plantation, is now home to just over 7,000 people. William Fairfax purchased the plantation and turned it into an elegant brick mansion, destroyed by fire in the late 1700s. The base was founded during the first World War and named in honor of the plantation that once stood there. Ft. Belvoir is now home to Virginia's National Guard 29th Infantry Division and other Army commands.

Racial makeup is nearly 56 percent white, 32 percent African American, just over 10 percent Hispanic, nearly 2 percent Asian, less than 1 percent Native American and 5 percent from other races. Nearly 85 percent of households have children under the age of 18 as part of their household.

      The same percentage is married couples. Nearly 12 percent of households have a female as head of household with no husband, while just under 2 percent are non-families. The average family size is 3.7, with the average household size at 3.6. The average income is $30,625. Broken down, it's $39,107 for males and $30,625 for females. Just under 5 percent live under poverty level. Most neighborhoods in the community are a mix of these demographics.

      Life in Ft Belvoir is pretty much the same as any close-knit community. There are many festivals and events scheduled throughout the year in Ft Belvoir. The community celebrates Black History Month with a skit showing the history of the culture along with a sampling of food from various ethnic groups.       The Villages at Belvoir is a collection of new, historic, and traditional housing throughout the area consisting of 15 different villages with a variety of housing options ranging from two to five bedrooms.
